Frontline projects have a set of common characteristics that make it extremely challenging for them to adopt existing digital tools (i.e: low time availability, variable IT savviness, high staff rotation) given that these offer too many features that go beyond their needs and result in an overwhelming complexity.
Nevertheless, frontline projects strive to survive and remain competitive by employing time-consuming manual processes to collect and aggregate impact metrics so they can report to their sponsors and the local authorities, organise their service delivery and plan ahead by forecasting logistics and supply needs. All this while trying to mitigate data safety and reputational risks.
In parallel, although infrastructure stakeholders sponsoring these projects usually have systems in place (i.e: CRM), they lack the reliable input of standardised last-mile data from their partner projects and the possibility for real-time monitoring. In turn, this hinders their competitive advantage to secure funding as well as it limits the possibilities of leveraging data for strategic decision-making.
